IMPERFECTIONS, 2022

MAY 7th - MAY 21st, 2022

Artists: Cavier, Bree Chapin

As artists continue to illustrate and confront brutal truths in our world after 2020’s social conditions, there has been a noticeable spike in awareness and accessibility to mental health services in New York City and beyond. With art therapy known as a tool for mental well-being and positive activations, this duo exhibition showcasing artists Bree Chapin and Cavier, dive deeper into personal ideas and benefits of the importance in seeking forms of therapy. How does one activity work through personal issues? Is therapy a welcomed or foreign practice to you personally? Through large abstract works and monochromatic portraits of female constructs and confrontations of substance abuse, both painters open a dialogue on prevalent acts of reflection and personal traumas that linger inwards which may still need addressing in our fast paced society. Imperfections, curated by Adrian Bermeo, is on view at Local Project Art Space is made possible by NYC’s Dept. of Cultural Affairs.

“From an artist’s point of view, creating to affect change in ourselves and those around us is something we flawed humans do naturally.  I’m under the impression that once you embrace what brings joy into your life, no matter the scale, many great things can follow”.
